And with a national company like Mercury, you get a choice of Mechanical Breakdown policies,
- Ultimate: where every repair is covered unless it is specifically excluded, the best you can buy.
- Deluxe - which names just about every repair you can think of
- Select - where you cover only a select number of major repairs for their lowest pricing.
Mercury's Mechanical Breakdown Policy is priced much less than most dealer's plans.
On top of that, you can lower your price by a choice of deductibles. The more you are willing to pay for a repair, the less you need to pay for your policy. Deductible choices include $0, $50, $100, $250 and $500 – the higher the deductible, the lower the price.

Frequently Asked Questions about Mercury's Mechanical Breakdown Policy. FAQ's
What is Mechanical Breakdown Protection?
Mechanical Breakdown Protection is coverage for auto repairs occurring after the Manufacturer's Warranty on your New or Used vehicle has expired. You can save hundreds of dollars over Dealer Service Contracts.
Why should I buy it if I still have the manufacturer's warranty on my car?
Statistics show that the big repair bills can come after the manufacturer's travel and tire road hazard benefits even during the manufacture provided by many factory warranties including: roadside assistance, towing, rental, warranty has expired. Plus, the Mercury protection plan has additional benefits not provided by many factory warranties including: roadside assistance, towing, rental, travel and tire road hazard benefits even during the manufacturer's warranty period.
May I wait before buying mechanical protection?
Coverage may be purchased at any time during the vehicles full factory warranty period.
Why should I purchase mechanical breakdown protection now if I can wait?
Though you can purchase at a later date there may be price increases or changes in coverage, deductibles and eligibility. The price today is a onetime charge guaranteed for the term of your coverage. Also, Roadside Assistance, Tire Protection, Emergency Trip Reimbursement and Towing are immediately available.
Can I still buy a policy if my vehicle is out of the Original Manufacturers Warranty?
Yes, in certain cases, contact Cronin Insurance to find out.
What if I have already purchased a service contract from my dealer?
Usually, you may cancel and receive a full refund if requested within 30 (or 60 days, depending on state regulations. Even after the complete refund cancellation period, you most likely would receive a prorated refund.
How do I cancel?
It is best to request a cancellation in writing to the dealership and the service contract company. The agreement material should also include cancellation instructions for your state.
The F&I Manager at the dealership said they will not honor coverage unless the contract is purchased from them. Is this true?
F&I Managers make a commission on service contracts that they sell. This is a scare tactic to get you to keep the service contract they sold you. If you have a mechanical failure and take your car to the service department most are glad to accept payment from any insurance company. The service managers get paid for generating service volume and cannot afford to turn away legitimate business. We (MSMC) pay full retail on parts and labor and provide payment through a major credit card. There is no reason for the dealership not to accept our coverage.
How does your coverage compare to that of the dealership?
Our coverage is very extensive and is comparable to that sold at the dealership. There are several different plans and levels of coverage available. Ours is as good, if not better, than most. We have been providing mechanical breakdown coverage since 1974 and have an excellent reputation for our prompt and courteous claims handling and customer service.
